Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi today visited
Dhemaji to assess the flood situation in the district. She was accompanied
by Union
Minister of home Shivraj Patil, senior congress leaders Digvijay Singh and
Chandan Bagchi, a team of officials from the union home ministry.
State chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with his cabinet colleague Bharat
Narah accompanied Sonia Gandhi along with a team of bureaucrats and
officials from Guwahati.
Mrs Sonia Gandhi today assured the flood affected people of Dhemaji that the
centre would provide whatever assistance is sought by the state for
rebuilding Dhemaji after the devastation caused by the flash floods which
hit the district on July 12.
Interacting
with the flood affected people for around 10 minutes, the UPA chairperson
said she is very much concerned over the situation in Dhemaji and had
herself insisted for coming to the place to take stock of the situation. |
